About us

Mixed Chorus Kakehashi has its origin in a parent chorus of the San Francisco Japanese School. The parent chorus started in 2007 and has performed annually at the Japanese school’s special event. They normally met for only a few months of the year. In Spring 2011, many members who wished to continue singing throughout the year gathered and extended their activities beyond the Japanese school.
The new group was named Kakehashi, meaning a bridge connecting two sides with differences, such as people, countries, and cultures. It reflects the San Francisco Japanese School’s vision of raising children so they will become the cultural bridge between Japan and other parts of the world.
Kakekashi has been performing at local festivals and events, such as the Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival, Tachibana Japanese School in San Jose, Stanford University, and Santa Clara University. We also participated in a joint charity concert for Japan’s Earthquake and Tsunami Relief at this same venue in December 2011.
